Small Budget Google Ads - Under $10 AUD a day?
A $10/day budget ($300/month) on Google Ads can work, but it needs to be very tightly focused. Otherwise the budget disappears quickly without meaningful results.
When $10/day can work
It works best when:
You target a very small area
Example: a single suburb or a tight service radius.
The smaller the location, the less competition you pay for.
You use high-intent keywords
Focus on searches where people are ready to buy, such as:
“garage door repair near me”
“pool heater repair Ipswich”
“tax accountant Springfield”
Avoid broad discovery terms like “garage doors”.
You run only Search Ads
Search ads target people already looking for the service.
Display or Performance campaigns will burn through $10/day quickly.
You limit the keywords
A small campaign might only have 5–15 very targeted keywords.
When $10/day usually does NOT work
It struggles when:
The industry has high cost-per-click (legal, insurance, finance).
You target large cities or countries.
You want brand awareness rather than leads.
You run multiple services at once.
In competitive industries, a single click can cost $5–$30, meaning the daily budget disappears after a few clicks.
Realistic expectation for your Google Ad
With $10/day you may get:
3–6 clicks per day in low-competition industries
1–2 clicks per day in competitive markets
That means you need very strong landing pages and conversion tracking.
Often a better strategy
For small budgets I often suggest:
Start with Google Business Profile optimisation
Focus on organic SEO
Run very targeted Google Ads only for your highest-value service
Then increase ad spend once the campaign proves profitable.
Cost-per-Click (CPC) Differences by Country
-
United States (USD) – Highly competitive, especially in industries like finance, law, insurance, and ecommerce.
CPC can range $1–$5 for general keywords
Highly competitive niches can go $20–$50 per click
-
United Kingdom (GBP) – Generally slightly cheaper than the US, but still competitive in major cities like London.
CPC often £0.80–£3 for general keywords
Competitive niches £10+ per click
-
Australia (AUD) – Usually slightly lower CPC than the US, but highly competitive niches still expensive.
CPC $1–$4 AUD for moderate competition
Key Takeaways
Smaller budgets work best in markets with lower CPC and highly targeted keywords.
$10/day is always tight; in high-cost countries (US, UK), you often need $20–$30/day minimum to generate enough data for optimisation.
Conversion rate and landing page quality become critical when the budget is low. A single click wasted can significantly hurt ROI.
You can still run small campaigns internationally, but expect slower data collection and fewer leads.
