Plugins and maintenance… the biggest problem is with updates to wordpress websites is a right way to do them and a wrong way.. pressing a button saying UPDATE and sitting back and hoping for the best can lead to website issues that then have to be fixed long down the track by some unsuspecting tech that could have done the update and prevented the issue.. here are some tips
1. plugins can suddenly become incompatible through code, so dont think cause a plugin worked it still will after a update
2. it’s not just pressing a button, some need manual updates which means going to the cPanel or FTP to pull across the new plugin and delete the old without a break in the website communication
3.don’t update all the plugins at once do them one at a time and check the front end for any function or theme errors.roilback if necessary
4. get wordfence, it’s settings can send you a email each time a plugin needs updating that’s critical
5. BACKUP BACKUP – do this first before any update just in case.
Time wise it can take 1hour a month (usually spread over the month) to update your site properly depending on how many plugins the type and how many updates occur each week. Paying for maintenance is like getting insurance, if something does go wrong then the tech can correct pretty quickly.
